Huck Lace Weaving: bl-lacewkshp

“Many weeks (actually months) ago I took a workshop exploring huck lace with a local instructor at our guild. The participants in the workshop graciously gave me permission to share some pictures of their work and I was to have posted it all a long time ago. The workshop was in September, and I learned a great deal about working with and designing in huck. My warp is the nice bright pink one (16/2 cotton). The rust coloured warp is also 16/2 cotton and the others are 16/2 linen.

As a result of this workshop, I am now working with huck lace to make napkins and placemats (and when these are done, I will share some pictures). They are made of 16/2 orlon in purple. I have many cones of this stuff, so might tie on if time and interest permit.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.”

Handweaving – Black Ice Shawl: blma-blackice

“I went to the reception and opening of a show at the Hera Gallery. I was kind of pleased, because it’s an “art” gallery, and they invited me, a humble weaver, to put my stuff in. I have two shawls there: “Black Ice”, woven with space-dyed black-gray-white silk warp and black wool weft, with some silver shot through and rock crystal beads in the fringes. The weave is “ice crystals” by Doramay Keasbey in Weaver’s. Somebody bought it that very evening! The other shawl is: “Northern Lights,” painted warp in cotton, rayon & silk, with 20/2 cotton weft. Weave: reversing twill. Also beads in fringe, glass and gold metal. Then there is one of my decorative runners (had it here in S&T a long time ago) with tassels at each end. Also, a couple of hanging ornaments: cotton, silver metallic thread and silver beads, inkle woven, sewn into tetrahedrons and stuffed w. polyfill. ”

Advancing Twill Weave: blsandra-advtwill

This is what I am currently working on. This scarf is 30/2 silk warp with purple silk/ramie blend weft. I designed this advancing twill by starting with a draft for the Ingrid Boesel workshop I took a few weeks ago and playing with reversals etc in Fiberworks PCW. I am quite happy with the draft and with how it is looking. It does take some concentration to weave though, so is slow going. I have enough warp for 2 scarves and am considering weaving the second one in natural silk/cashmere, if I can get comfortable with this treadling.
