During some of my travels I had the opportunity to stop by the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ. We spent several delightful hours there, but I’m sure we didn’t see everything. If you have the chance to go, do, it’s well worth it. For those who can’t, you can still visit online. Woven by the Grandmothers was an exhibit that featured over 40 weavings from the collection of the National Museum of American Indians. It was inspiring and gave me a sense of connection with these weavers from long ago. I wanted to reach out and touch the pieces, but restrained myself. The Museum has a book out about the exhibit, with photos, explaining in detail each piece. I didn’t purchase it, (as I’d already overspent my budget), but will be adding it to my book collection soon. The annual American Native artist’s market was also on that week-end with over 400 participants displaying their work. And yes, I had a chance to try some Fry Bread.
