TrainingSandra Nickeson is a community artist educator whose work has been exhibited in Japan, England, Canada and numerous USA exhibitions. Most recently, her work took her to Senegal, West Africa, where she met artists with whom she corresponds and explores issues of intercultural collaboration. She served as artist in residence at a St. Louis social service agency prior to becoming affiliated with Taproots School of the Arts and other community arts programs. She is a graduate of the Community Artist Training Institute sponsored by the Regional Arts Commission and Webster University, a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, received the John E. Simon Award for Public Service from Maryville University. Her fiberart is featured in Fiberarts Design Books IV & V and in Barbara Smith's book, Celebrating the Stitch: Contemporary North American Embroidery. She is at work on a crosscultural book about butterflies, transformation and transcendence Inspired by her trip to Senegal, and teaches workshops on creativity enhancement, surface design and mixed media art applications, including visual journaling.
