Training

In 1988 I spent 6 months in Finland as an International Four-H Youth Exchange (IFYE). While there I learned to weave and to make Bobbin Lace. I am mostly self-taught; and, so, have experienced many of the pitfalls that beginners find themselves facing. I believe that gives me the ability to help beginners avoid the mistakes I made or at least to help them through with some of the tricks I've learned.

Weaving

I offer Beginning & Intermediate Weaving classes at my studio. Beginning students learn the basics of weaving while creating 4 placemats or a table runner. The Intermediate class focuses more on design, calculations & creativity as the students design, plan & complete a project of their own.

Spinning

I teach Beginning Spinning as well as an Advanced Beginner Class. Beginning Spinning teaches basic fiber preparation, drop spinning and then spinning on a wheel. The Advanced Beginner class focuses more on preparing & spinning a variety of fibers.

Dyeing

My dying workshop utilizes Gaywool dyes to create rainbow effects in an 8 minute microwaving process. I have also prepared a workshop on the beautiful results that can be obtained by dying colored fleeces.

Other Fiberarts

I also teach Bobbin Lace Classes & Basket Weaving Workshops. My Bobbin Lace Classes are set up in three day long classes. Students move from learning the basic "fir-tree fan", cloth stitch & lattice stitch in the beginning class to learning sewings, spiders & tallies in the advanced beginner class to mastering picots, gimps & other grounds in the intermediate class. My Basket Weaving Workshops vary from weekly 3 hour sessions to all day Saturday classes depending on the size & style of basket we make.

Travel

I teach weaving & spinning primarily in my studio; but I am available to travel.

My teaching & workshop schedule will soon be available on the internet.
