Definition:
A little fragment of textile fabric that is used for catalogs, laboratory testing, analysis. A sample is generally woven at different setts, washed and finished before the full project is made. This allows the weaver to determine the appropriate sett, beat, yarns and finishing treatment that will achieve the desired effect.
