| I didn't know what I was going to use this piece for when I put it on the loom. Just wanted something fun to do while camping. After doing it, then had the idea to trim pillowcases with it. The finished piece was about 11 inches wide and three yards long. After stay-stitching it I cut it down the middle, measured it to fit over the existing pillowcase hem, turned the stay-stitched sides under and sewed it on. The first thing I did was open the seam of the pillowcase down to the body of the case. Then I basted the piping on. Turned under the lace edge, pressed it then sewed it on. Sewed the pillowcase hem back into place and overcast it. Next time I will be more careful how wide I weave the piece since I will know what I'm using it for. In order to make this fit I had to cut the selvages off. When I try it again it will be with finer threads and am going to try to fold it and use it for the entire pillowcase hem making it double thickness. I know now it will work.
One thing I did learn is the next pair will be done with much finer thread. This is not lightweight enough for my taste. I also didn't realize the yarn was not white enough but it would not work on ecru so I opted for white on white. It is really whiter than the picture shows. I also bought a piece of fancy cording and slipped under the huck lace and it adds a little sparkle that I like. Really scary to do that first cut :o)
Now, on to the next one......Norma |
