Handspun Hat Knitting Pattern |
![]() |
| This knitting pattern works well for handspun yarns. You can knit it to any size and gauge of yarn. Knit a sample and a needle size that is appropriate for your handspun yarn. Measure the circumference of your head or use another hat that fits you well. Multiply this measurement by the number of stitches to the inch in your sample, to estimate the number of stitches you require to cast on.
For example Knit in the round in K1, P1 ribbing for 1.5 inches Knit in stockinette stitch for 4 inches, until the hat measures 5.5 inches total. Divide the hat into 6 equal portions and mark with markers. These will be the places where the decrease occurs.
e.g. over 60 stitches Knit. Decrease 6 stitches evenly across on every other row. Repeat until 8 stitches remain. Break off the yarn and sew it through each of the stitches to cast off. Wash the hat in hot soapy water to slightly full it. Rinse in cool water and let dry.
