These Christmas tree ornament bags were woven using 8/2 cotton for both warp and weft. I livened the project up by adding some metallic yarns. As I was unsure about how the metallic yarns would work as warp, I threaded them with the 8/2 cotton, treating the 2 yarns as one (i.e. threaded in the same heddle). Note: This draft is turned on its side, to better fit your page.

The threading is a single corduroy weave structure, adapted from Peter Collingwood's book,The Techniques of Rug Weaving, p. 397.
The project is woven using 2 shuttles. 8/2 Red cotton weaves the background. The base of the corduroy tree is woven using 6 strands of black 8/2 cotton and metallic yarns. The green corduroy "trees" are woven using 6 strands of green 8/2 cotton and metallic yarns. This draft weaves both sides of the bag at once. Between each "bag" I wove 1.5 inches of tabby, for cutting and sewing allowance. | |
 | Each "tree" was cut and shaped on the loom, before advancing the warp. I found it best to weave the 1.5" of tabby - before trimming the "trees" to avoid accidentally cutting the warp threads. (Yes, I learned the hard way.) |
FinishingAfter cutting the warp off the loom, each bag was cut and folded in half. I stitched the side and bottom of the bag and folded over the top edge. The edge was finished with a single crochet stitch using 8/2 cotton and metallic yarns. A crocheted chain completed the handle of the little bag.
