Ruler Wrapping for Sett |
| Since writing this feature, I have received email from members pointing out an alternate method of determining sett. In this method, the yarn is wrapped more snugly together on the ruler, and the wrap count is divided by 2. I have always used the method I described above and it seems to work for me. To test this method out, I wrapped chenille yarn both ways and came up with the following results: |
Loosely wrapped - Threads just touching |
![]() |
| Rayon Chenille 1450 ypp # wraps = 16 |
| Yarn approximates the spacing of the warp in the finished project. |
Snugly wrapped yarn |
![]() |
| Rayon Chenille 1450 ypp # wraps = 28 28/2 = 14 epi |
|
Yarn wrapping approximates the density of the finished cloth - both warp and weft, hence the
number of wraps is divided by 2, to obtain the number of warp threads only.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to try both methods to determine an appropriate range for the sett of a particular yarn.
