| If you are a beginner weaver, you may have already purchased a book or two on learning to weave. Someone may have given you a small table loom, or perhaps you have jumped right in and purchased a larger floor loom. You have some lovely yarns and an image of what type of projects you would like to make.

| Now you may be looking at this equipment and those diagrams of how to warp and are a bit confused by the complexity of it all. What is a reed, a heddle, sett, warp, weft? You are learning a new language and finding you have to develop new motor skills. The best thing to do is to find another weaver to help you with your first few warps. Warping a loom isn't that difficult, once you have done it a few times. But it is helpful to have someone available to guide you through the process.

| Check with your local yarn store. They may know who the weavers are in your area. It is also a good idea to join your local weavers guild. There is quite a good weavers guild system in Canada and the U.S. with members meeting on a regular basis, usually monthly. |
| The Handweavers Guild of America (HGA) can direct you to a guild in your area. |
| Some guilds have websites as well, and are listed in our Net Links library, arranged by geogaphic location.

| The guilds have training programs, weaving exchanges, and newsletters to keep members informed of special events and projects. Guilds sponsor annual conferences, offering workshops with high quality instructors, vendor booths, and providing opportunities for weavers to meet.
