PICASSA

1997
WeaveIt 2.0 is a weaving program for creating threading, treadling and tie-up drafts. It works with both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. I downloaded the demo version from Canyon Art

This article is not an endorsement of the software, rather just my opinion of the demo version.

In the demo version, printing, and saving features are turned off so I am unable to display the various screens. I found the software quite self explanatory and easy to work with.

In the Loom Setup screen, you can specify your type of loom, jack(rising shed) or counterbalance(sinking shed), the number of shafts and number of pedals and whether you are using metric in your calculations.

The Project Setup screen allows you to enter the date, project description, amount of shrinkage, loom waste, sett and ppi. A feature that I liked was that if you enter the length and width of the warp, it calculates the finished length and width of the project.

A Yarn List screen allows you to enter each type of yarn you are using, with descriptions of colour, name, and vendor information. Cost and yardage information can be entered either in cost and yardage per pound or per skein. These values are then used to compute the total cost of the project, broken down by warp and weft cost.

The Edit screens for entering the threading and tie-ups were also simple to use. When entering a threading, repeats could easily be copied and pasted or flipped. Tie-up threadings could be inverted for rising or sinking sheds.

The demo version also allows you to only work on it for 15 minutes at a time, so it took several attempts, before I was able to complete a test of the software. I found that a bit annoying, however, I can understand the developer's method of protecting her work. It is worth a try, before you decide on your software purchase, to see if it meets your needs.

WeaveIt and WeaveIt Pro
I have used this software for several years now. I have found the project costing feature to be invaluable. There is a new version available that runs on Win XP, though I haven't gotten around to ordering it yet.
