Hemp Yarns

What is an Affiliate?
This scarf project uses 8/2 cotton yarn for warp and a hemp/cotton blend yarn as weft. For the warp, I selected an assortment of 8/2 cotton in shades of green & blue colours that I had on hand and warped them in a random order. Try this scarf using your own favourite colour combo.

The hemp/cotton yarn is a natural cream colour. If you don't have hemp you could substitute the weft with another fine weight cotton or even silk.

I chose the draft from A Handweaver's Pattern Book
Marguerite Porter Davison
Periwinkle
p. 131

Warp: 8/2 Cotton
Warp Length: 8 yards
No. Ends: 160
Width in Reed: 8 inches
Sett: 20 epi
Weft: 7s Hemp/Cotton

The first scarf was woven using the draft above, with Tabby ground.

This warp is still on my loom, but it looks promising:-)

There is sufficient warp to weave a couple of different scarves. I plan to change the treadling and to also use a few different weights of hemp yarns for the weft. Please check back in a few days to see the results.
