All Fiber Arts Forum Host - Cathy

Fibre Education – crochet course Australia early 70s, came home to NZ got settled & then looked around to continue said education, ended up taking a 6wk beginner 4shaft weaving course & fell in love – then I learn Spin2Weave technique. In the late 80s with private tuition learnt the finer aspects of spinning to knit & how to manipulate circular knitting needles.

Over the years I have taken different workshops – some just showed me that I didn’t want to go any further – others like ’88 Catherine Mick, Canadian rag hinge weaver – inspired me no end – I think I have a thing about recycling & her techniques have seen me enjoy this type of weaving.
Since finding the internet communities I have extended my vision to incorporate patterns like huck lace, summer and winter & now some shadow weaving – all with my trusty 4s footpower jack looms.

I belong to a number of fibre organisations – Auckland Handweavers & Spinners Guild, NZ Spinning, Weaving & Woolcrafts Soc [Creative Fibres], Akarana Fibres, *869* Spinners, Auckland Patchwork/Quilting Guild, Titirangi Community Arts Council [TCAC]

At the present moment I’m the Yarn Shop Manager for the Auckland H/W & Sp Guild.

My business was/is called *flourishing fibres* – now part time due to health problems, I was a founding member of *Studio Down Under*, Lopdell House, Titirangi & also *Craft Centre*, Horopito St, Mt Eden [both now closed], Owner of *Willows Craft Shop* with ex-husband in Auckland City [now closed], Partner in *Comfort Outdoors* – no longer operating.

All tho’ I haven’t entered any exhibitions/competitions for sometime – Awards have been won most years until ’93 at Opotiki Fibre & Fleece in the Home Accessories section for mostly throws or bedspreads. I have participated in other shows including Combined Textile Guild/Easter show, TCAC Cash and Carry & Eco-friendly. I have works in private collections.
